The Boy Who Lived

Description

"A breeze ruffled the neat hedges of Privet Drive, which lay silent and tidy under the inky sky, the very last place you would expect astonishing things to happen. Harry Potter rolled over inside his blankets without waking up. One small hand closed on the letter beside him and he slept on, not knowing he was special, not knowing he was famous, not knowing he would be woken in a few hours' time by Mrs. Dursley's scream as she opened the front door to put out the milk bottles, nor that he would spend the next few weeks being prodded and pinched by his cousin Dudley...He couldn't know that at this very moment, people meeting in secret all over the country were holding up their glasses and saying in hushed voices: "To Harry Potter - the boy who lived!”"

Look, it's a little bundle o'Harry! So I've been in a Harry Potter mood lately and I was thinking awhile ago how my sister and I once had the idea to do illustrations for each chapter of Harry Potter and then I thought, "Yeah, but I don't really make the greatest pictures in the world and I would want Harry Potter illustrations to be amazing . . . hm, what if I made things from each chapter instead?" And here it is. The Boy Who Lived, all bundled up on the Dursley's doorstep (judging by the lighting, I'd say Aunt Petunia is due any minute). Harry's face is sculpted from sculpey and then painted. While I was working with his hair his face got all smudged with sharpie - but I'm okay with it now. Hagrid probably didn't give Harry a bath before he came to Privet drive and Harry's house had just been destroyed, plus he's a toddler - he's bound to be a little dirty. I really enjoyed making Harry's quilt - I especially like the little red ties I put on. It ripped in a few places but I decided not to fix it, because it gives it character and personality, the quilt is probably old and a little worn. The box is a vegetable crate from Hagrid's garden that he brought for carrying Harry and then, because of it's sort of makeshift crib-like appearance I decided that the Dursley's probably continued to use it as Harry's bed while he was a baby.
